Former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu on Wednesday advised the team’s number one goalkeeper Carl Ikeme to ensure focus during their match against Zambia on Sunday.

Shorunmu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that Ikeme should ensure he was in synergy with the team’s defenders.

NAN reports that the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia is scheduled for Ndola, and 20 players are currently in camp in Abuja in preparation for the qualifier.

Ikeme started the 2012/2013 season as Wolverhampton Wanderers’ first-choice goalkeeper following injuries to Wayne Hennessey and Dorus de Vries, and he has maintained his place in the first team.

“I believe every player selected knows the importance of this match, which includes Ikeme. He is a well-seasoned goalkeeper and he knows he needs 100 per cent focus.

“He has to coordinate and communicate well with the defenceline, so that there won’t be any problem. But the defenders need to be in top form too, and if we can get our defence right, we will be fine.

“Once the defenders and the goalkeeper are in sync, they have less to worry about, because I believe our strikers have what it takes to deliver,’’ Shorunmu said.
