Contrary to news making the rounds that Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, is set to face internal disciplinary charges for misconduct in his club, Moroka Swallow in South Africa, the player has come to debunk the story.

An online report had stated that Akpeyi, who led the Super Eagles to a bronze medal finish at Egypt 2019 AFCON, was billed to face an internal disciplinary charge for misconduct alongside his teammates on Friday.

Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, from his base in South Africa, the easy-going Akpeyi said: “That headline is misleading because the issue is not about me facing internal disciplinary charges for misconduct. It is an issue between the players and the management, and it is being handled. As we speak, the matter is being resolved. It is sad the writer of the story just wanted to tie the entire issue around me. It is unprofessional.”

According to the report, the management of the club accused the squad of initiating an ‘illegal strike’, which led to the Premier Soccer League having to cancel their fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on December 27 just hours before kick-off.
