Bendel Insurance, yesterday, showed why they have been tipped for a clean sweep of domestic laurels this season when they defeated Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0 to earn a Federation Cup semifinal ticket.

The Benin Arsenals are the form team of the season, as they went through the regular Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season unbeaten in Group A. They have vowed to continue on their winning streak until the NPFL crown, FA Cup and the NPFL/Mmobuosi titles are in their kitty.

Playing at the Awka Stadium, Insurance dominated the game, but Sunshine Stars were resolute in defence as they waded off the victors’ attack in the first half.

Sunshine Stars eventually caved in in the 56th minute when that man, Imade Osarenkhoe, scored the only goal of the match following defender, Ogbuagu Emmanuel’s handball in the box.

Thereafter, Osarenkhoe, who is one of the revelations of the season, could not find a way past Sunshine Stars’ goalie Mustapha Lawal.

Bendel Insurance will meet Warri Wolves in the semifinals after NPFL Super Six tournament holding in Lagos from June 1 to 11.

Warri Wolves dumped defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 in Ijebu Ode to set up the game Insurance.
