Nigeria professional mixed martial artist, Israel Adesanya, has labelled Lagos females as ‘asewo’, a Yoruba derogatory word meaning prostitutes.

Adesanya made the remark in a short video posted on his X handle.

It is not known whether he had an issue with anyone on social media which led him to make the comment.

“You Lagos females you are shakara ( playing hard to get) majority of you are ‘runs girls’ and I know what that means, prostitutes,” Adesanya said.

“You want to do this, you want to do that, nonsense. Just be nice, just be friendly, say hi.”

Meanwhile, reactions have trailed Adesanya’s comment about Lagos females as X users took to their social media handles to express their opinions.

An X user SMB with the handle @smbstilldey blasted Adesanya for losing to a South African in his last fight.

He wrote, “This is the third game you go lose be this, you’re not even ashamed of yourself, common South African MMA fighter beat you.”

YourMe with the handle @oriyomiluqman warned Adesanya not to end his career with such comments, saying: “Haaa Style Bender don’t bend your career for this your rubbish talk.”

Another user Body’ of God with the handle @Champagnediet11 wrote: “Even with your money you can’t get girls. Shameless goat.”

While a user Chelz known on X as @ChefChelz challenged Adesanya to name whoever he has an issue with.

He said, “I understand what you saying but I don’t get why this cooking hmmm. Bro just name her instead of talking in parables.”

Adesanya is currently holidaying in Nigeria after losing to South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis in their Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title fight.

The Style Bender suffered a fourth-round submission at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia to the South African in his first title defence.

Adesanya lost the middleweight title to Strickland in his last outing in September 2023.
