Bastian Schweinsteiger insists he is determined to play for Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.

The 32-year-old has been frozen out at Old Trafford since the arrival of the Portuguese boss in the summer and has been told he can leave the club in January– with at least five MLS clubs reported to be keen on the World Cup winner.

The midfielder has not even made an appearance for United’s reserves and had been forced to train away from the senior squad – although the German revealed he is back with the first team.

Despite his current situation, though, Schweinsteiger was still honoured on Thursday night at the German BAMBI awards where he picked up a ‘Special Jury’ prize.

And the former Germany captain hopes his determination and dedication in training can help him fight his way back into Mourinho’s plans.

‘My goal is to play for Manchester United. I give everything for that in every training session and I hope for my chance,’ said Schweinsteiger.

‘It’s going well. I train with the first team and I enjoy it a lot. When the team needs me, I am there to help.’

Schweinsteiger moved to United in the summer of 2015 for a reported £14.4million and made 31 appearances during Louis van Gaal’s last season in charge, but will once again be watching from the sidelines this season when Manchester United face Arsenal today.
