South Africa caused the biggest upset yet of the on-going African Cup of Nations in Egypt yesterday when they knocked out the hosts to book a place in the quarterfinals. They will meet Nigeria in a game nobody thought was possible before yesterday’s events in Egypt.

Earlier in Alexandria, Nigeria had beaten Cameroon 3-2 against pundits’ predictions, but it was nowhere near the shock caused by the Bafana Bafana, who defeated Egypt 1-0 in Cairo.

The South Africans, who did not show any sign of a side that barely managed to qualify for the second round, got their winner five minutes from time through Thembinkosi Lorch.

South Africa will now meet Nigeria on Wednesday.
