Iyare, Otabor win Okunbo at 60 golf tournament

Osaze Iyare and Deborah Otabor, last weekend, beat the field to win the Kingsley Okunbo @ 60 Invitational Golf Tournament, which was held at Benin Club Golf Section, Benin City, Edo State.

The five-day birthday golf tournament was organised by a committee of friends, led by former Benin Club Golf Section Captain, Ignatius Aigbokhaode, in honour of Kingsley Okunbo, a philanthropist, an avid golfer and an apostle of golf development in Edo and the country.

Iyare, who plays off handicap three on an opening day, carded 68 net and wrapped up the game on the second day with 73 net to win the men’s handicap 0 to 18 category, ahead of former BCGS Captain, Mayer Ologbosere, who recorded 153 net and Jude Igbinadolor, who placed third with 155 net.

Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd.) won the best gross category with 171 gross.

Similarly, Otabor, a former Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) National Vice-President, Southern Zone, prevailed in the ladies handicap 0 to 28, with 152 net played over two days, having beaten Princess Nkeiruka Awiaka on countback, while Ehis Igbinadolor placed third with 156 net.  Online Betting 

At the closing ceremony, special guests, winners, and Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu and his wife, Maryam, among many other guests from across the country, showered encomiums on the celebrant and organisers of the event that attracted over 200 golfers.

Other winners in different categories include Emmanuel Omofuma in the men’s handicap 19 to 28 category with 72 net; Foluso Oboro in the ladies handicap 29 to 36 category with 76 net; Prof. Josephine Mokwunyei (81 net) and former BCGS Captain, Chief Afam Obanor (74 net) in the veteran men’s and ladies versions respectively.

Dr. John Ogbeide (93 net) and Mummy Ivie Iyoha (98 net) were also among the winners, as they took the super veterans men’s and ladies crowns.
