Jonathan inaugurates GEJ Club, seeks partnership for sports development

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has inaugurated the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Sports Club (GEJ) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has inaugurated the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Sports Club (GEJ) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He has also called on the private sector and other stakeholders towards nurturing young talents for the country.

Speaking while unveiling the club in Yenagoa, the former president urged relevant stakeholders to partner with the club to help nurture and grow young talents in the country.

He said the club would raise young future world champions for Nigeria, adding that the GEJ Club House will accommodate different indoor games.

Jonathan also expressed optimism that the facility would be completed on record time to can host some state, zonal and national competitions before the end of the year.

Jonathan said: “Today, it was a delight and honour to host friends and sports enthusiasts at the official opening of GEJ Sports Club in Yenagoa, Bayelsa.”

“The idea here is to groom young talents that can compete favourably with other international players from any part of the world.

“The club will be pleased to partner with relevant stakeholders to grow and nurture young talents that will make Nigeria and Africa proud.”

In his remarks, the member representing Ekeremor/Sagbama in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, commended the former president for his thoughtfulness in opening the Sports Club in Bayelsa, adding that the former president has been a goal getter and an asset for the people of Bayelsa, Niger Delta and entire Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, Bayelsa State’s Commissioner for Education, Mr. Gentle Emelah, promised that the state would partner with the club to promote sports development.

Highlights of the event was the distribution of various gifts to some athletes who participated in some sporting events during the opening ceremony.
