Lagos, Edo excel at Panamai W’African Taekwondo Championships
It was celebration galore for Nigeria at the just-concluded 15th Panamai West Africa and Cottage Mills Taekwondo Championship, which held in Lagos.
With over 15 states from Nigeria and five West African countries participating in the five-day championship, Lagos State finished first overall best, Edo State came second, while Ebonyi State squeezed into third position.
Team Nasarawa athletes scuttled the odds to come fourth as their spirited efforts yielded them three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
The trio of Ihuo Laady Louisa (-49kg women’s senior category), Mildred Monday (-52kg junior category) and Agada Elijah (Poomsae) won one gold medal each. Emmanuel Kasimu Ayaka won a silver medal in the -45kg category, while the duo of Maria Raphael (-46kg women’s category) and Bashir Usman (-63kg men’s category) also won one bronze medals.
Other states that participated in the championship were Oyo, Kebbi, Abia, Rivers, Ogun, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Oyo, Cross River and Imo.
The West African countries included Togo, Ghana, Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire and Niger Republic.
Teams partook in cadet, junior and senior events at the competition.
