
Uyi Apata excited over award
The President General of Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), Mike Magaji has listed the benefits of the Sports Carnival, which the body organised in Lagos at the weekend.
The carnival, which attracted members from 30 Unity schools across the country, took place at the Cricket Oval of Tafawa Balewa Square.
Speaking with The Guardian at the end of the event, Magaji said that he believes the association, through the sports carnival and other activities, can unite it’s members and Nigerians in general by teaching them how people can live in diversity, excel and progress.
“As you can see, the attendance has been awesome, much more than anything we have ever done. This show the interest and commitment of members who will spur the executives to strive to make the carnival an annual event.”
At the ebd of the exciting event, Federal Government College, Idoani, Ondo State and Federal Government College Ogbomoso, Oyo State, emerged overall men and women’s champions.
Aside from winning the overall title, both schools also emerged champions in the football event, which was grand finale.
While FGC Idoani won the 5-aside football for men, FGC Ogbomoso picked the gold in the women version
About 1,500 old students from 30 of the 115 Unity School braved the heavy downpour in Lagos on Saturday to participate in the one-day Sports fiesta which also had a business exhibition.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Chinedu Okoli, said the turn out of members exceeded their expectations.
“USOSAns, by their massive turn out, competitive spirit and sportsmanship have been able to show other citizens that Nigeria is truly one and united.”
One of the awardees at the occasion, President of Nigeria Cricket Federation, Uyi Akpata, said “I am just excited seeing that most of the schools are represented. I see everyone excited about old times and let’s remember the whole essence of Unity Schools is to unify people.”
