Mbappe has asked to leave the Ligue 1 champions PSG, according to Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito. The 20-year-old hinted that he may want to move away from the Parc des Princes last month.

Speaking as he picked up his Ligue 1 Player of the Year award, he said he’s reached a turning point in his career, and that maybe it’s time for a new project.

“It’s very important moment for me, I come to a turning point in my career,” he said at the award ceremony.

“I have discovered a lot here, and I feel it is perhaps the moment to have more responsibility.

“I hope that can maybe be at Paris Saint-Germain, that would be a great pleasure, or perhaps elsewhere with a new project.”

Real Madrid had been interested in signing Mbappe, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The club needs a poster boy, and Mbappe would fit the role perfectly, it said.

Los Blanco’s tactic was to wait until the opportune moment to try and sign him.

That could be when PSG reveal they’re open to selling the youngster, or if he asks to leave.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has said both Mbappe and Neymar could end up leaving the club this summer.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: “As a coach, I do want them to continue, but this is football, we are not naive.

“Many clubs want to transfer many players and the market is crazy, but if you ask me, the coach, yes, I want them here next season.

“But if they are not, we will find solutions.”
PSG bought Mbappe from Monaco for around £120m last summer, after an initial season-long loan.
