Ministry to monitor performance, harvest talents from Anambra 2020 Police Games

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will monitor the proceedings at the 2020 Police Games in Anambra State with a view to harnessing the talents discovered at the competition, Sports Minister, Sunday Dare has promised.

Dare, who pledged his full support to the Nigeria Police towards the realization of the objectives of the 12th biennial Nigeria Police Games, which holds in Anambra State from February 29  to March 7, 2020, told a visiting Central Organizing Committee for the Games, led by the Chairman, AIG Usman Baba Alkali yesterday that the Ministry already had plans to identify sports talents within the Force and work with the Police in developing them to future champions.

He also disclosed that the Ministry would work closely with the Nigeria Police and the Anambra State Government for the success of the games.  At the meeting, Dare appointed Mary Onyali, an accomplished Nigerian athlete, who is also the director of Talent Hunt Programme (THP) in the Ministry and Special Adviser to the Minister on Sports, to serve as the Ministry’s Liaison Officer for the Games and the head of talent hunting team for Anambra 2020.
 
The Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee while thanking the minister for his support, reiterated that the Nigeria Police would not fall below its age-long standard of producing world-class champions for the country.
