Monaco defender Eric Dier, who injured his right hamstring during training on Thursday, is likely to miss next week’s reunion with former club Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, according to sources close to the club.

The 31-year-old centre-back, who faces further tests on his hamstring on Thursday evening, will definitely miss new coach Sebastien Pocognoli’s first game in charge at Angers in their Ligue 1 match on Saturday.

Dier spent 10 years in north London, making 365 appearances for Spurs including the 2019 Champions League final. He left for Bayern Munich in 2024, going on to win the Bundesliga last season.

Dier’s absence is another blow for Monaco, who are already without Christian Mawissa, Vanderson, Denis Zakaria while Paul Pogba’s return is still in question.
