NFF confirms Joseph Yobo as Super Eagles’ assistant coach

Joseph Yobo has been confirmed as the new assistant coach of Nigeria as replacement for Imama Amapakabo, who has parted ways with the federation.Yobo, an Everton legend, captained the Super Eagles to a triumphant outing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, and will now assist head coach, Gernot Rohr.

Joseph Yobo has been confirmed as the new assistant coach of Nigeria as replacement for Imama Amapakabo, who has parted ways with the federation.Yobo, an Everton legend, captained the Super Eagles to a triumphant outing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, and will now assist head coach, Gernot Rohr.

“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Super Eagles’ defender and captain Joseph Yobo as assistant coach of the team. He replaces Imama Amapakabo in the three -ime African champions’ technical crew,” an NFF statement read.

Yobo graduated to the Super Eagles after representing the country at U20 level during the 1999 Fifa U20 World Cup.His country’s second most capped player, Yobo won the first of his 100 caps for Nigeria against Zambia in Chingola in 2001.

The former Everton, Fenerbahce and Norwich City defender played in six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments between 2002 and 2013 in a 14-year career.He featured in three World Cup tournaments in 2002, 2010 and 2014, playing 10 matches at the World Cup finals in total – the most appearances for the West African nation on the biggest stage.

Yobo became the first African to captain Everton in October 2007 and made more than 250 appearances for the Toffees, helping them qualify for the Champions League in 2005 and playing in the side that lost the 2009 FA Cup final to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Club Brugge forward, Emmanuel Dennis as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho.According to bvbbuzz.com, Sancho is being heavily linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund this summer, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs circling for his signature. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea are all said to be interested in signing him.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, Borussia Dortmund are following the progress of highly rated Club Bruuge forward Emmanuel Dennis. The 22 year old, who can play on either wing, as well as up front, is said to be attracting the interest of a number of clubs around Europe, including AS Monaco, Sheffield United, Newcastle and Watford.

The Nigerian international has scored eight goals in all competitions for Club Brugge so far this season, including two in the Champions League against Real Madrid.The report says that Club Brugge are hoping to earn a transfer fee of 25 million euros for their prized asset. It also adds that Dennis met with Sancho in Dubai during the winter break, and the duo are said to have talked about Borussia Dortmund’s interest.

A lot of Borussia Dortmund’s summer transfer business will depend on whether or not Jadon Sancho decides to leave the club. The BVB bosses will be hoping to convince him to stay for another year, but will know that a move back to England might be too hard to turn down for him.
