The President of the Gambian Volleyball Federation (GVBF), Bai Dodou Jallow, has praised Nigeria for providing a safe and well-organised environment for the just-concluded African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship, saying that the country is fully capable of hosting more Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) events.
Encouraged by the success of the tournament, Jallow called on CAVB to continue entrusting Nigeria with hosting duties.
Jallow, who also serves as the president of the Sport Organising Commission (SOC) of CAVB, made the remarks on the sidelines of the championship held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
He expressed satisfaction with the security, hospitality, and professionalism shown by the hosts, commending both the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, and the Nigeria Customs Volleyball Club for an outstanding job.
Jallow said: “We’ve been free to move around to the markets and everywhere, without needing much security or protection. It’s a very safe place. The players and all the delegations, who have been here over the last two weeks, have not reported any incidents. There has been no cause for concern at all.”
“It’s been a fantastic competition. Everyone has been focused on volleyball, and that’s why the players and teams have performed at their very best. There’s been no fear, no incidents, no security problems, just excellent volleyball.”
Jallow noted that the peaceful atmosphere allowed for complete focus on the game, which contributed to a high-quality tournament.
He also commended the exceptional performance of the participating teams and the professionalism of the organisers.
He added: “The environment created by the Nigeria Customs and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation has been excellent. The level of play has been amazing. With what we have seen here, Africa is well on its way to competing strongly at the international level in women’s volleyball.
“Nigeria should continue to host. I will be advocating for that, I have been treated so well here, and I have seen the professionalism displayed by the Organizing Committee, Customs, and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation. It has truly been impressive.”
