Super Eagles manager, José Peseiro is set to unleash a 42-goal strike-force of Victor Osimhen and Terem Moffi on Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 African Cup of Nation qualifier.

Two teams who have made fine starts to their respective 2023 AFCON qualifying campaigns face off on Friday, March 24 when Nigeria welcome the challenge of Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles have claimed maximum points from their opening two qualifiers while the visitors remain unbeaten heading into the clash at the Abuja National Stadium.

Off the back of a 2-1 victory against Sierra Leone to get their qualification journey underway, Nigeria strolled to an impressive 10-0 victory against Sao Tome and Principe on June 13.

Osimhen was the star of the show for Peseiro’s men as he netted four times and set up further strikes for Moses Simon and Moffi, who were joined on the scoresheet by Peter Etebo, Ademola Lookman and Emmanuel Dennis.

However, the Super Eagles have been beaten in each of their subsequent three outings, which luckily for them have all been largely inconsequential friendlies.

They will now seek to return to winning ways against an opposing outfit who suffered a 2-0 defeat in the only previous edition of this fixture back in the 2022 AFCON and they look very good to achieve that with a 42-goal strike-force of Osimhen and Moffi.

Napoli striker, Osimhen has been in scintillating form so far during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring 25 goals and providing four assists in just 29 games across all competitions.

Osimhen’s pace and dribbling ability make him a threat to any defence, and his eye for goal would be crucial to Nigeria’s success. He should be a certain starter for the Super Eagles.

The 24-year-old who has now netted 15 times for his country, currently sits ninth on the all-time scoring charts while also boasting the best goal-to-game ratio of anybody in the top 10.

OGC Nice’s attacker, Moffi has himself been a sensation this season, scoring 17 goals and providing two assists in 28 games for his new club and parent side, FC Lorient.

The 22-year-old’s physicality and aerial ability make him a dangerous proposition in the opposition box. However, he may struggle to displace Osimhen as the main striker.

The Super Eagles have a plethora of striking options ahead of their upcoming AFCON  qualification fixture against Guinea-Bissau.

But with Peseiro’s favourite 4-4-2 formation, only two of the four forwards can make the starting line-up and these certainly will be Osimhen and Moffi.

Currently unbeaten on home turf since 2021, Friday’s hosts will look to put on a dominant display in front of what is set to be an expectant home crowd in Abuja.
