Nigerian Bobsled team set to entertain fans, holds trial at National Stadium, Lagos
For the first time in history, Nigerian fans will see the Bobsled team in action tomorrow at the National Stadium, Lagos.
In 2018, the Nigerian Bobsled team surprised the entire world, when it became the first Africans to participate in the Winter Olympics held in Korea.
President of the Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria (BSFN), Solomon Ogba, told The Guardian, yesterday, that the facilities for the Bobsled team had been installed at the parking space of the National Stadium in Surulere.
“We just finished the installation of the facilities at the parking space inside the National Stadium in Lagos ahead of our national trial on Saturday,” Ogba, who is the First Vice President of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) said.
According to him, the Bobsled team to be selected tomorrow will be sent abroad for further training ahead of the qualifiers for the 2022 Winter Olympics slated for Beijing, China.
Ogba said: “The last phrase of qualifiers for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing will hold between October this year and January 2022. We have to get our team in place for the task ahead. After this trial in Lagos, we will bring in eight of our players to join the team. I am sure we will parade a strong team in Beijing 2022.”
The Guardian recalls that the first Nigerian Bobsled team was established in 2016 by Seun Adigun, and in 2018, the team, consisted of driver Adigun, and brakemen Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga made its first appearance at the Winter Olympics in Korea.
