NRFF distributes 1,000 balls donated by Gilbert Rugby France, World Rugby

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has started distributing the 1,000 balls donated to it by renowned global brand, Gilbert Rugby and World Rugby, marking a major boost for the sport’s grassroots development programme.

According to the NRFF, Gilbert Rugby, which has been the official ball supplier to every Rugby World Cup since 1995, handed over the consignment to its representative in the United Kingdom.

The donation is part of Gilbert Rugby’s ongoing commitment to advancing the sport globally through partnerships that support grassroots and national development efforts.

NRFF President, Dr. Ademola Are, expressed appreciation for the generous contribution, describing it as a vote of confidence in Nigeria’s rugby potential.

“This is a game-changing gesture from Gilbert Rugby. It not only validates our efforts to grow the game but equips our youth with the tools to succeed.”

With continued partnerships like this, rugby can become a powerhouse sport in Nigeria,” he said.

The NRFF has begun distributing the rugby balls to various states through its zonal coordinators and federation representatives. States like Kano, Ogun and Lagos have already received their consignments, with others set to follow.

NRFF General Manager, Azeez Ladipo, said that the distribution effort reflects the federation’s commitment to equitable access and sustained youth engagement in the sport.

“This donation is going directly to schools, academies, and local clubs. We’re focused on empowering every corner of the country to build a strong foundation for rugby,” Ladipo said.

Nigeria Rugby Development Officer, Hussain Wuraola Shakirat, has commended the NRFF for its distribution efforts and strong commitment to developing the game at the grassroots level.

The NRFF said that the partnership with Gilbert Rugby is the latest milestone in Nigeria’s strategic plan to grow participation, talent, and visibility for the sport nationwide.
