Olympians Odunayo Adekuoroye (55kg), Mercy Genesis (48kg), Aminat Adeniyi (58kg), Blessing Oborududu (63kg) Amas Daniel (65kg) and Soso Tamarau (97 kg) are among a 20-man provisional list for the Africa Wrestling Championships holding in Marrakech, Morocco.

The National Wrestling Federation (NWF), which released the list yesterday, said the nation would feature in seven events that include male freestyle, five Greco-Roman and eight female wrestlers, which commences tomorrow and ends on May 1.

Others wrestlers in camp include Melvin Bibo (86kg), Welson Ebikewenimo (55kg), Firstman Victor (61kg), Ogbonna John (70kg), Apala Opukiri (74kg).

New comers to the event are Makanjuola Bisola (60kg), Samuel Bose (53kg), Kemeasuodei Dressman (69kg) and Gofit Winnie (75kg).

All Africa Games gold medalist, Nworie Emmanuel, would lead four others in Greco Roman that include Dick Enienibodi, Nathaniel Samuel and Perefegha Kiribein.

According to the President of NWF, Daniel Igali, the wrestlers were picked from the recent Governor Serieke Dickson classics held in Yenagoa last month.

Igali, who lauded the Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung and Governor Serieke Dickson of Bayelsa State for coming to aid of the wrestlers for the championship, said he is happy with the development.

“Bayelsa government will be sponsoring 12 wrestlers to the tournament in Morocco. The governor said he is giving his support because of what the nation can offer at the championship. The Ministry of Youths and Sports also extended its support to the team, and I want to thank Barrister Dalung for that,” Igali said.

He, however, said the team would gather in Lagos today, as the Nigerian Army has promised to provide accommodation pending the time the contingent travels to Morocco.
