Ogalla preaches wellness at Navy’s 69th anniversary tourney

As part of the ongoing celebrations marking the 69th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, the Dolphin Golf Club in Navy Town, Lagos, played host to a golf kitty last Friday, where the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, emphasised the importance of sportsmanship, wellness, and unity within the service.

The event, with 71 registered golfers, 64 male and 7 female participants, was a key fixture in the week-long commemorative activities. The golfers competed across the 18-hole course in a display of skill, strategy, and camaraderie.

In a keynote address, Vice Admiral Ogalla described the golf tournament as more than a recreational activity, but a bridge between the military and civilian communities.

“This tournament is one of the many ways we are building bridges between the service and the society. Golf, as you know, mirrors the values of patience, strategy, precision, integrity and composure under pressure,” he stated.

While highlighting the Navy’s evolution into a formidable maritime force, Ogalla reaffirmed the service’s commitment to enhancing personnel welfare and continuous professional development.

“As we continue to accomplish these giant strides, we will ensure adequate training and improve the welfare packages for our residents,” he said.
In support of the event, Ogalla announced a personal donation of N10 million towards improving the club’s facilities, promising further development and revitalisation of the Golf Club grounds.

“I have taken keen interest in the facilities that are here and I am thankful to say that we are going to turn this place around,” he affirmed. The event was attended by senior naval officers, representatives of other military and paramilitary agencies, retired officers, captains of industry, and civilian guests.
