And although Ammirati, 21, was too crestfallen to see the funny side at the time, it seems he’s had enough to at least laugh at himself now. That’s after taking to TikTok in a satirical video poking fun at the bizarre manner in which his first Olympic experience ground to a halt.

“POV (point of view): You make more buzz for your package than for your performances,” wrote Ammirati in the caption accompanying his video. The Frenchman – who has been offered a sizeable sum to appear on an adult site – could be seen with a blank expression, staring into the abyss off-camera as he continued to process his slip days later.

Ammirati’s latest social media reaction is the first time fans have seen the former youth star jest about his Olympic misfortune in public. However, he did comment the day after his departure to describe his regret more analytically.

“It’s a big disappointment,” he told the French Athletics Federation. “I’m a bit gutted because I didn’t miss anything on the third attempt at 5.70 m. What I did miss was a bit of jumping in training to fine-tune the settings. Just a technical session.”
