Organizers of the five-day Island Club sports week, which ended at the weekend, have charged members of the club to continue engaging in sporting activities to attain healthy living and create common bond.

The championship, which featured table tennis, lawn tennis, dart, scrabble and other sporting events, was filled with fun and excitement, as competitors slugged it out for laurels.

Speaking at the event, Island Club’s Sports Secretary, Areola Mumuney, said the objective of the sports week was to foster unity and love in the club, which he said was the fundamental principles of the funding fathers of the great club.

‘’I thank God for the success of the sports week. The will to prepare and also win is important in any sports. All the participants in the championship are winners. Participating in the sports week has given the members the opportunity to exchange ideas and interact through sports,’’ he said.

Also speaking on the occasion, chairman of Island Club, Oladipo Okpeseyi, said the high level of competition among members brought glamour to the sporting event.

“I congratulate all participants, win or lose, because without participating there would be no competition. The gains of healthy body and mind cannot be quantified in terms of winning. I also thank our special guest of honour, Royal fathers of the day, trustees and past chairmen, officers and members of the club for the success of the occasion,’’ he said
