The final game of the 2023 SFFL Showtime Flag Football League between Spartans and Lagos Rebels at the Meadow Hallway, Alma Beach, Lagos, recently, saw the highest gathering of spectators in a live flag football match in Africa. At the end of the game, Spartans FC were declared winners after beating Lagos Rebels FC 49-18.

Speaking at the end of the game, Amida said the game was filled with excitement and competitive spirit among the players, adding that the recent news that flag football is now an Olympics event would drive the promoters to keep pushing to make the league more popular in Nigeria.

“We are thrilled by the interest people are showing in the sport and the only thing we can do is to keep encouraging our players to keep improving their game,” he said.

On his part, SFFL Showtime Coed Flag Football League Commissioner, Adejumo Adebare, said the league would be expanded to 16 teams to attract more players to the sport next season.

“This year’s final of the SFFL Showtime Flag Football League has shown that there is a bright future in the sport. We had 10 teams in the league this season and all the teams displayed high level of professionalism throughout the 11 weeks of the league.

“By next year, we pray to increase the number of teams and probably get a bigger space to play the league. The awareness drive is already there and more youths are embracing Flag Football in Nigeria. I congratulate Spartans for winning this year league,” he said.
