Osimhen equals Maradona’s Serie A scoring feat at Napoli
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen matched the late Diego Maradona’s scoring achievement at Napoli after scoring a hat-trick in a 6-1 win at Sassuolo on Wednesday.
It was Osimhen’s second hat-trick in the Serie A.
Osimhen’s second goal against Sassuolo which put Napoli 3-1 up, took his league goals for the season to 10.
According to Opta, the Nigerian striker becomes only the third Napoli player in the club’s history to score 10 or more goals for four consecutive seasons.
Maradona did that between 1984 and 1988 while Attila Sallustro was the first to create the record between 1929/30 and 1932/33.
Osimhen went on to get his hat-trick early in the second half to take his tally in the Italian topflight to 11 goals in 15 games.
His first season (2020/21) at Napoli saw him score 10 goals in 24 league appearances.
In the 2022/22 league season, he netted 14 goals in 27 appearance before scoring 26 goals in 32 matches when Napoli won the league title.
