Over 120 players subscribe to Daily Trust golf tourney in Uyo
Over 120 players have registered for the one-day Daily Trust golf tournament billed for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The golf tournament, which is being organised by the media organisation, is generating interest among golf stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
Part of the excitement about the one-day tournament, scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 4, at the 18-hole Ibom Golf Course in Uyo, is the mouth-watering offer of a return ticket for a golfing weekend in Kigali, the Rwandan capital, for the top winners in the men and ladies’ categories.
According to the General Manager, Business and Strategy, Daily Trust, Ahmed Shekarau, the tournament will attract the crème of Nigeria’s golf players, captains of industry and special guests for a weekend of exciting golf while promoting national unity.
“We made the conscious decision to promote the game of golf through the Daily Trust Golf Tournament because golf’s growing popularity among Nigeria’s prime movers has elevated the sport to a strategic meeting point for the elite class,” Shekarau said.
“Golf creates an opportunity for business networking, and therefore, serves as an ideal course to enhance the drive for the unity of purpose by citizens, especially, at this challenging period in our country.”
He disclosed that several golfers from Benin, Enugu, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, Katsina and Lagos have either paid their entry fees or made commitments on their readiness to be part of the one-day tourney.
The star prize for both the men and the ladies’ winner, is an all-expenses-paid golfing weekend in Kigali, Rwanda; 3-night stay in a 5-star hotel in Kigali; 2-rounds of golf at the Premier 18-hole Kigali Golf Club, and a business class round-trip on Abuja-Kigali ticket on Rwanda Air.
The amateur tournament debuted in 2018.
