Secretary-General of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Alhaji Maigidansanma Mohammed, said the date was chosen at the federation’s recent quarterly meeting.

“The executive board of the federation met during their quarterly meeting in Abuja and approved for the first phase of the top tier handball league to hold from May 22 to June 4, 2022.

“HFN board has resolved to organise a three-day refresher course for Premier League coaches and referees before the commencement of the first phase of the League on a date to be decided,” he said.

Mohammed added that the second phase of the Premier League would hold in Lagos later in the year.

Recall that Kano Pillars dethroned Safety Shooters to win the men’s competition last year, while Safety Babes ousted Adorable Angels to win the women’s category.

Teams debuting in the men and women’s categories are Owena Kings, Benue Buffaloes, Sokoto Rima, Benue Queens. They gained promotion from the just concluded National Division One Handball League held in Benin City, Edo State.
