Following the conclusion of the qualifying rounds of the ongoing 43rd CBN Senior Tennis Open Championship on Sunday, the main draw of the competition served off yesterday at the Package ‘B’ of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Action started with the round of 64 in the men’s singles, while the women’s singles began from the round of 32. The athletes will also compete in the doubles and the wheelchair singles division.

Joseph Imeh is the top seed in men’s singles, while Oyinlomo Quadri, who is the back-to-back champion, is the player to beat in the women’s singles. Quadri won the title in 2019 and 2020 and is going for the third straight win of the event.

Other top players listed for the championship are Christian Paul, Clifford Enosoregbe, Abdulmumuni Babalola, Shehu Lawal and Iloputa, among others.

The women category boasts the likes of former champions, Serah Adegoke and Christy Agugbom, Blessing Samuel, Aanu Aiyegbusi, Ronke Akingbade, Blessing Anuna and U.S-based Marylove Edward.

Serah Adegoke, who blamed injury for her inability to claim the title last year, has vowed to stop Quadri this year. In the men’s singles, the top seed, Joseph Imeh, is optimistic about winning the title and the giant trophy and N1 million prize money.
