Enugu Rangers International yesterday stunned Egyptian rising power, Pyramids FC 1-0 in Cairo to end their four-match winning streak in the Confederation Cup group stage.

Ifeanyi George latched onto a long pass from Msonter Shimaga to skip past his marker and beat the advancing keeper in the 73rd minute.

The hosts were guilty of squandering some easy chances, including a glaring one from Ghanaian striker John Antwi with the goal at his mercy and a close-range header from Mohamed ElGabbas that was brilliantly denied by Nigerian keeper, Nana Bonsu.

After securing the top spot of this group with 12 points from their previous four matches, Pyramids FC coach, Ante Cacic, rested several of his key players such as skipper and schemer Abdallah El-Said, winger Islam Eissa, midfielder Emad “Dunga” Nabil and defender Ali Gabr.

Enugu Rangers are now third on the group with five points, one behind Egyptian side Masry, who play FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania.

Meanwhile, Enyimba’s CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final qualification bid suffered a setback after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Hassania Agadir.

Having overpowered AC Paradou 4-1 in their last outing, the People’s Elephants were hoping for a win against the Moroccans to qualify from Group D.

However, Fatai Osho’s men were held to a draw by the north Africans at the Enyimba International Stadium.

The visitors came into the game with the ambition of winning, little wonder they took the lead after two minutes through Youssef Alfahli.

Enyimba equalised in the 16th minute courtesy of Augustine Oladapo as the scintillating first-half ended 1-1.
