Rohr, Echiejile upbeat as Eagles tackle Czech Republic in Austria
The Super Eagles have the objective of coming out of today’s friendly against the Czech Republic with a win to set them in great psychological tune for the FIFA World Cup finals.
Coach Gernot Rohr said yesterday that a win would be the target, against the backdrop of consecutive losses in friendly matches against
Serbia and England, and with Nigeria’s first match of the FIFA World Cup against Croatia only 10 days away.
“We will go for victory that would boost spirit and earn team confidence ahead of our first match in Russia. It would not be an easy pick but we will work hard for it.”
Echiejile, who was an unused substitute at Wembley against England, is confident the Super Eagles can adapt quickly and right all the wrongs before the Czech cracker and the start of the World Cup.
A very sloppy first half for the Super Eagles resulted in two goals for England, which condemned Rohr’s team to a 2-1 loss despite a much-improved second-half performance from the team.
Elderson is expected to start the game against the Czech Republic as Rohr will be looking to field a much different starting XI from England’s game.
He told brila.net that he is ready to fill any left position for the Eagles ahead of the World Cup.
