Warns Eagles against distractions

Former Flying Eagles Manager, John Obuh, has posited that Nigeria’s rise to the seventh position in Africa in the latest FIFA rankings and the continuous victory of the team in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying series have proved that among other coaches that have handled the Super Eagles recently, Gernot Rohr is the luckiest.

Obuh explained that the Nigerian national team, who did not have a favourable position in the FIFA rankings in the past owing to players’ unimpressive performance in international engagements for country and club, affected the profile of the country in soccer globally.

He stated that the Super Eagles so far have been able to attain success under Rohr because of the commitment and determination of young players like Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, among others in the team.

Obuh charged the players to concentrate in their quest to qualify for the World Cup, while he urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to start making funds available for the team’s remaining matches of the World Cup qualifying series.

“The Eagles excelling in the world rankings, players’ performance in their clubs, the victory against Zambia and Algeria are examples that the coach is having a good time with the team.

“Being among the top 10 teams in Africa shows that our players are playing well, they should keep it up. But the NFF should start sourcing for funds for the remaining World Cup qualifiers now because paucity of funds is another aspect that might hinder the team’s success,” he said.
