Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and former Governor Chief James Ibori have been honoured as national patrons of the Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Club.

The honour was bestowed on the duo at a ceremony in remembrance of the late Ovie of Idjerhe kingdom, Ododo Erhiekevwe, who was the National Vice President of the club.

The ceremony was part of a two-week programme of activities to mark the departure of the traditional ruler, who contributed to the growth and development of his kingdom.

Decorating Governor Okowa as the club’s national patron, the President General of the Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo said the governor was a sports icon, who had contributed to the growth of the sector.

He said Delta State had soared high in sports development and discovery of new talents, pointing out that the state had also produced footballers, who had done the nation proud at various levels.

In his remarks, Governor Okowa thanked the Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Club for honouring him and his predecessor, adding that the late traditional ruler was a prominent member of the club, who contributed his quota to the success of their activities.

He described the late Ovie of Idjerhe kingdom as a father to all and was able to transform his kingdom during his reign, even as he consoled his family to take solace in the fact that their father lived a good and rewarding life.
