The women’s top seeds at the ongoing CBN Senior Tennis Championship are living up to their rating. Yesterday at the tennis courts of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, the number one seed, Mohammed Khadijat, proved that her top rating is no fluke by beating wildcard entrant, Agunbiade Toluwalose, 6-1, 6-0 to move to the quarterfinal. She will face Godwin Favour in today’s quarterfinal game.
Another top-rated star, Udofia Mary, had a 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) win over Otu Blessing, while Ogunjobi Success defeated Samuel Gloria 6-0, 6-3 to win the chance to face the high-flying Udofia in the quarterfinal.
Omotayo Blessing, who beat Bamidele Abosede 6-2, 6-2 in their second round game, will be up against seed 2, Emmanuel-Essien Bright, to decide who moves into the semifinals.
Bassey Etoro will engage Suwa Nenro, who defeated Olaniyan Abosede 2-0 (6-1, 6-0) to make the quarterfinals.
In the men’s singles category, seed 1, Abua Canice, who defeated Sani Musa,6-4,6-3, will meet Mohammed Dahiru in the quarterfinals.
Mohammed beat Chinedu Sunday, 6-1, 6-2, while Michael Chima, who beat Sani Yahaya 6-2, 6-2, will tackle Edward David, a wild card entrant into the main draw.
