Ukpeseraye wins Delta’s seventh gold medal, targets another cycling laurel today

Team Delta, yesterday, at the cycling event of the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival, tagged Delta 2022, added another gold medal to her haul.

The state, however, lost one of the two events concluded yesterday.

The cycling event ends today.

Team Delta’s leading female cyclist, Ese Ukpeseraye, grabbed her seventh gold medal to become the first woman rider in recent times to achieve the feat.

Speaking on her performance, Ukpeseraye said she can still make it gold number 8 in the last event of the cycling event, which is the Individual Time Trials all things being equal.

“I am happy to have won seven gold medals, and I still have a chance to make it number eight. give God the glory and thank my coaches and teammates for all the support,” she said.

Ukpeseraye beat her teammate, Mary Samuel and Team Oyo’s Tawakalt Yekeen, to the silver and bronze medals respectively, in the women 28km elimination race.

Team Delta’s male cyclists, who have not done as well as their women counterparts, lost out in the 38km elimination race yesterday.

Team Rivers’ cyclist, Kelvin Vitalis, captured the gold medal with Team Oyo’s Ajibade Quadri and Isah Momoh of Team Edo picking the silver and bronze medals respectively.
