Volleyball Premier League venue changed to Abuja over crisis in Kaduna

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation has changed the venue for the 2018 Volleyball Premier league from Kaduna to Abuja following the security challenges in the state.

The volleyball federation says it cannot guarantee the safety of the players in Kaduna.

According to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) put in place for the tournament, the date for the commencement of the league has been shifted from today (November 1) to Saturday November 3, to enable participating teams arrive for the tournament.

Secretary of the LOC Alhaji Adamu Maikano, who communicated the new date to the participating clubs, stated that the new venue for the league is the indoor sports hall at the National Stadium Package B, Abuja.

“The new date of the League is from November 3 to 10 in Abuja. The venue was changed from Kaduna to Abuja due to the safety of the players,” he stated.

According to Maikano, the League would have taken place long ago, but the Federation decided to move it forward as Nigeria hosted the U-21 Men’s Africa Volleyball Nations Cup, as well as the zonal eliminations of the 19th National Sports Festival.

He added: “Nigeria Volleyball is under the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), and we had to shift our program.”
