We are in Uyo to boost Eagles’ confidence – supporters club boss

Chairman of the Unified Supporters’ Club, Vincent Okumagba, says their presence in Uyo for this Saturday 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier is to boost Super Eagles’ confidence ‎to beat Rwanda.

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Unified Supporters’ Club on Friday, reaffirmed its commitment to rallying strong support for the Super Eagles to overcome Rwanda in the crucial World Cup qualifier in Uyo.

Okumagbe told The Guardian in a telephone interview on Friday that thousands of supporters from different parts of the country were already in Uyo to play their part in the encounter.

“As we speak, a lot of our members are already in Uyo, while many others are still en route from different parts of the country,” Okumagba said. “Our members from Kano and Plateau States fly in on Thursday. Some members from Osun and Lagos also flew in today (Friday). Others are still on their way by road. It is a full house here, and the Super Eagles won’t lack support in Saturday’s game against Rwanda.”

According to him, their sole mission in Uyo is to create an electrifying atmosphere for the national team. He praised the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their continued support, which he said, has greatly strengthened the efforts of the Unified Supporters’ Club.

Okumagba singled out NSC chairman Shehu Diko and Director General Bukola Olopade for praise for their backing, especially as the group makes preparations to accompany the Super Eagles to South Africa for Tuesday’s qualifier in Bloemfontein.

He explained that although the initial plan was to allocate 120 slots for the Unified Supporters’ Club delegation to South Africa, this had to be reviewed due to the limited capacity of Bloemfontein stadium.

However, arrangements are being finalised to ensure that a significant number of band members, instrumentalists, and group leaders make the trip to boost morale and provide vocal encouragement for the team.

Speaking further, ‎Okumagba stated that the supporters are deploying personal resources to ensure maximum presence both in Uyo and South Africa, reiterating that the group expects nothing less than victory from the Super Eagles.

“Anything short of victory is not acceptable to us. We have committed our time, energy, and finances to ensure the Eagles are well-supported. We believe strongly that Nigeria will collect maximum points from both games,” he declared.

‎The Super Eagles currently sit fourth in Group C of the African World Cup qualifiers, trailing leaders South Africa by six points.
