But it was not so sweet a day for defending champions, Enyimba of Aba, who lost another game on the road, this time to struggling 3SC of Ibadan 1-0.

Enugu Rangers, who at a time were setting the pace in the race, also lost to Plateau United 2-0.

Wikki Tourists now have the same 40 points from 21 matches with Rivers United, but they sit on top of the table due to their superior goals difference.

Rivers United, which held Enyimba to a goalless draw in Umuahia on Thursday, trounced MFM FC 4-1 in Port Harcourt.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars played out a 2-2 draw with Warri Wolves, Akwa United held hosts Ikorodu United to a 1-1 draw, and Sunshine Stars defeated Lobi Stars 1-0, while Nasarawa United beat IfeanyiUbah 4-2 in one of the most exciting games of the weekend.
