World Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), have invited former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (rtd) to take part in the Mentoring Programme for Referees at the fast approaching African Championships in Accra, Ghana.
Nesiama, whose tenure as AFN Technical Director discovered the likes of Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Divine Oduduru, just returned from the World Relays in Botswana, where he served as a referee.
The initiative in Accra, according to World Athletics and CAA, aims to support the development of Technical Officials through a combination of practical experience, education sessions, and on-site mentoring during a major continental competition.
A letter sent to Nesiama, signed by the Development Senior Manager International Relations & Development Department, Stephane Merlino said.
“We are pleased to inform you that World Athletics will cover your international flight ticket, and CAA will cover your accommodation for the duration of your stay, from 10 May to 19 May 2026.
“In addition, World Athletics will appoint a Gold Referee with extensive expertise in competition organisation, who will be present to support, advise, and mentor participants, particularly in competition preparation and delivery.
“Your participation will include: Active involvement in the African Championships, attendance at dedicated mentoring and education sessions, opportunities to exchange with experienced officials and peers.”
