Zone Three champions, First Bank, enter camp for finals
There is no rest for FIBA Africa Zone Three champions, First Bank Basketball, who are expected to begin preparation for the finals, which comes up in Mozambique next month.
The team at the weekend won the Zone Three championship, but rather than rest on their oars, Coach Peter Ahmedu said the girls will enter camp immediately to begin preparation for the continental finals.
The Lagos team defeated Etoile Filante of Lome 68 to 39 in the final game to emerge champions of West Africa.
“It was good that we won this championship with a 100 per cent record, but we still need to work extra hard to win a medal at the finals in Mozambique. The African Championship is of a higher level and we need to be at our best,” Ahmedu said.
The Elephant Girls finished fourth in the last to edition of the African Championship and Coach Ahmedu believes that reinforcing the squad with a few players will raise the level of his team.
“We are bringing in one or two players to the team so that we can be at a high level. My aim is to win a medal in Mozambique,” Ahmedu added.
