COVID-19 in God’s purpose – Part 1

Introduction
In this season of COVID-19, the world has become increasingly fearful. The church that is supposed to give succour to the people of the world is also very perplexed. Everybody is confused. All these are happening as a result of the wrong theology that has been foisted on God’s people by our Christian leaders. It needs to be corrected, so that we can take our rightful place in the scheme of things and stop working at cross-purpose with God.

Please note: The church is not about us. It is not about our convenience. It is not about our pleasure or comfort. It is about God. It is about God’s purpose. The Bible says, “unto him shall the gathering of the people be” (Gen. 49:10). So, in whatever situation the world finds itself, it is the church’s duty to search for God’s purpose in that situation like in the COVID-19 experience. God has a purpose in allowing this outbreak. We need to discover that purpose for the church to work together with God and pray effectively to help in that situation.

In the Pauline letter to the Colossian church, while emphasising the supremacy and the pre-eminence of Christ, Paul says in Col 1:16 that “all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible were created BY HIM and FOR HIM.” Everything including COVID-19 is to serve the PURPOSE OF CHRIST. It works for Christ. Therefore, in order to be of any meaningful use to God in this hour, the church needs to discover God’s purpose in the situation at hand, instead of adding to the people’s confusion and the Church with the babble of prophetic nonsense being spread out by Christian leaders today. It is time to stop embarrassing the Lord’s name and be ready to give the world purposeful direction in this darkest hour of pain and anguish.

God does not do anything without revealing it to His people. When He wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, He shared it with Abraham. As a result, Abraham was able to make meaningful intercession for Lot’s salvation (Gen. 18:17-33). Even today, God is not silent about what is happening around the world. He wants to have a conversation with His people, so He can use them to achieve His purpose on earth. Let us discover His purpose in the COVID-19 case, and stop working at cross-purpose with Him and pray effectively.
