We see this clearly in Christ’s devotion to righteousness (Is 11:5) and His hatred of iniquity in His life, ministry and death (see John 3:19; 11:33).
(1) Christ’s faithfulness to His Father while on earth, as demonstrated by His love of righteousness and hatred of wickedness, is the basis for God’s anointing of His Son. In the same way, our anointing will come only as we identify with our Master’s attitude toward righteousness and evil (Ps 45:7).
(2) Our love of righteousness and hatred of evil will increase by two means:
•by growing in love and compassion for those whose lives are being destroyed by sin, and
•experiencing greater intimacy and oneness with the Lord Jesus who “loved righteousness, and hated iniquity” (see Ps 94:16; 97:10; Prov 8:13; Amos 5:15; Rom 12:9; 1John 2:15; Rev 2:6).
(1) Those who have pleasure in unrighteousness“that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thes 2:12)“had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
Delighting in wickedness while refusing to love the truth (v.10) will be the deciding factor in God’s judgment in the last days.
* Those destined to experience God’s wrath will be those who did not love the truth and, therefore, participated in, and entertained themselves with evil and immorality (see 2Tim 3:1). They will be given over by God to judgment that includes demonic deception and the power of darkness (see Luke 23:35; Rom 1:32; 1Tim 4:1).
* Those experiencing condemnation during the “day of the Lord” (see v.2) will include not only the world of unbelievers, but also those guilty of turning away from the true faith. They chose the pleasures of sin (instead of enjoying God) and are swept along with the tide of the world in the last days (see vv.3, 7; 2Tim 4:3-4).
(2) Misery Resulting From Sin
“Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled,” (Jn 11:33).
“He groaned in the spirit.” This passage reveals the heart and feelings of Jesus as He faces the heartbreak and suffering caused by all the evil in the world. (1) The word rendered “groaned” (Gkembrimaomai) pictures profound emotion involving anger. Jesus was grieved and angered by all the misery resulting from sin, Satan and death. His soul is filled not with cold unconcern, but with rage against evil, as He fights for the salvation of the human race (see 11:35; Mat 23:13; also Mat 21:12-13; Mk 11:15,17; Lk 19:45-46; Jn 2:14-16). (2) One of the surest signs of God’s work in our lives is that we begin to notice how much misery, sorrow and suffering sin has caused in the world (cf. Gen 3:16-19; Rom 5:12). • Email: [email protected]. Facebook: Yetunde Mercy Olumide
