Phil 2:13: What do we do when we don’t feel like obeying? God has not left us alone in our struggles to do His will. He wants to come along with us and to be within us to help. God wants to helps us to obey him and then gives us the power to do what he wants. The secret to a changed life is to submit to God’s control and let him work. Next time, ask God to help you to do his will.

To be like Christ, we must train ourselves to think like Christ. To change our desires to be more like Christ, we need the power of the indwelling Spirit (1:19), the influence of faithful Christians, obedience to God’s word (not just exposure to it), and sacrificial service. Often, it is in doing God’s will that we gain the desire to do it (see4:8,9). Do what he wants and trust him to change your desires. “God who works in you.” God’s grace works in His children to produce in them both the desire and power to do His will.

However, God’s work is not one of compulsion or irresistible grace. The work of grace within us (1:6; 1Thes 5:24; 2Tim 4:18; Tit 3:5-7) is always dependent on our cooperation and response of faith (vv12,14-16; cf.Rom 4:16;5:2).

• Do The Stars Give Guidance?
“Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. 14: Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it,” (Isaiah 47:13-14). 47:12-15, the people of Babylon sought advice and help from astrologers and stargazers. But like the idols of wood or gold, astrologers could not even deliver themselves from what was to come from the hand of God. Why rely on those who are powerless? The helpless cannot help us. Alternatives to God are destined to fail. If you want help, find it in God, who has proven his power in creation and in history.

“Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, you mountains; O, forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israel. 25: Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, and drives diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolishness. 26: Who confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; who says to Jerusalem: ‘You shall be inhabited,’ to the cities of Judah, ‘you shall be built,’ and I will raise up her waste places,” (Isa 44:22, 25, 26).
