The prophetic account in Ezekiel 37 is one of my most favored stories in the Bible. I love it very much because the events of the story reveal the awesomeness of God’s power.

It is not just a prophetic insight of the Divine restoration of Israel as nation, but it is an unfailing account of God’s heart-throbbing perchance for turning around seemingly impossible situations of darkness and using it for His glory.

This story is an account of revival in the valley of dry bones. It brings comfort and hope to the heart of every genuine minister of the gospel, and every child of God. It teaches us that no situation is too hopeless for our God. Listen friends, whatever may be the condition of darkness, deadness and the level of abomination going on in your family, city or nation in which God has planted you, the same God, Who started a revival in the valley of dry bones is still alive. He is only looking for ministers, like Ezekiel, who are ready to work together and co-operate with Him.

The story also shows us that Divine revivals are not spurious. They have to be prepared for. Revivals are usually one of the most sought after experiences. They are also grossly misunderstood. This account of Ezekiel chapter 37 teaches us that God is not interested in blind revivals. Revivals are not accidents. God does not force it upon an unprepared people. Revivals are born. They are birthed under specific conditions. Behind every outbreak of revival, whether in the Bible days or in contemporary times, there is a meticulous preparation of men by God, through the ministry of provocation, and an awakening of the souls of men to fully cooperate with Him. God sets the conditions and until they are fulfilled, there can be no revival. The Holy Spirit can open our eyes to these conditions as we go through the prophetic account of revival in the days of Ezekiel and Elijah as well as at the dawn of the New Testament church.

Read this column next week as we look at the conditions that must be fulfilled before any revival can be birthed.
