The call of leadership
Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”
The call of Jesus to “follow Him” is a call to leadership.
By that statement, He meant that, as you follow Him, men would follow you, just as fishermen catch fish in the water.
That is, as you follow him, He will give you the ability to obtain followership. This is what leadership is all about.
Jeremiah was called by God, even before he was born.
Whether he realised it or not, the call was there, and it was only when he agreed with the calling and responded to Him, that it became effective in his life, irrespective of the fact that he saw himself as a child.
Therefore, you don’t need to be an old man before God can call you.
Once you are a child of God, hanging over your life is a CALLING.
Jeremiah 1:5-7 – Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child, but the Lord said unto me, say not I am a child: for thou shall go to all that I shall send thee and whatsoever I command thee, thou shalt speak.
The leadership position you are occupying now is not by man but a divine call.
Man may be a human instrument in the appointment, but God is the One behind the call.
It is God that works in us, both to will and to do according to His good pleasure.
People may have elected or appointed you, but it was God at work through man.
See it, therefore, that it was God’s appointment and that you must give account to Him.
You must also understand there is no such thing as an inferior or superior call.
The same way God called the Apostle Paul was the same way He called you.
Beloved, there is no mistake in your call to leadership.
God’s intention is that it shall be from glory to glory, and from one level of leadership to the next level.
You need to keep moving from one height unto the next height.
The method may differ, position and title may differ, but the same Lord and the same spiritual value in assignment; they all require the same spiritual commitments.
When God sees your faithfulness, He promotes you to the next level.
Whether you are an apostle, bishop, pastor, usher, music director, sound and sight director, they are all calls to leadership.
It is the same God that calls all, and will reward according to faithfulness to the office of call, not according to the title you carry.
