The God who answers in the day of distress
Genesis 35:3 “And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and “I WILL MAKE THERE AN ALTAR UNTO GOD, WHO ANSWERED ME IN THE DAY OF MY DISTRESS”, and was with me in the way which I went”.
We are living in distressing times. Distress – a state of untold hardship, tension and stress, has become a recurring decimal in families, politics, socio-economic space, educational sector, etc. The intensity of these extraneous distressing forces is overwhelming and unabated. In spite of all of these, the Bible presents to us, THE “GOD WHO ANSWERS IN THE DAY OF DISTRESS”. Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, A VERY PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE”. Jacob – the grandson of Abraham went through negative distressing challenges of life and discovered the GOD WHO ANSWERS IN THE DAY OF DISTRESS. His definition of Who God is was captured in what God did, when he went through crises. He identified with the God who answered and delivered him in the days of his distress. (Genesis 35:3). God gives us open invitation to come, to call upon Him in our times of distress. Psalm 50:15 “AND CALL UPON ME IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE: I WILL DELIVER THEE, and thou shalt glorify Me”. Biblical history is replete with God’s direct intervention in the lives of those who came to Him for help in the time of crisis. Psalm 107: 6, 13, 19 and 28 declares repeatedly that “Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and HE DELIVERED THEM OUT OF THEIR DISTRESSES”. The Scripture further declares in Psalm 34: 6 and 19 “THIS POOR MAN CRIED, and the LORD heard him, and SAVED him out of all his TROUBLES; MANY ARE THE AFFLICTIONS OF THE RIGHTEOUS: but the LORD delivereth him out of THEM ALL”. So, no matter what is happening to you or around you, we have the God Who specialises in dealing with our distresses.
Psalm 18:6 “IN MY DISTRESS I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of His Temple, and my cry came before Him, even into His ears”. Psalm 118:5 “I called upon the LORD IN DISTRESS: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place”. Psalm 120:1 “In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and He heard me”. Isaiah 25:4 “For thou hast been a strength to the POOR, a strength to the NEEDY IN HIS DISTRESS, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall”. JESUS invites both the sinners and the saints to come for complete deliverance in our excruciating distresses. Matthew 11:28 “COME UNTO ME, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST”. So whatever is the distress you face today: health, financial, marital, business, family issues, etc., the One by Whom all things came into existence, has the capacity to obliterate our distresses and burdens. Let us give Him our distresses and burdens. Psalm 55: 22 “CAST THY BURDEN UPON THE LORD, AND HE SHALL SUSTAIN THEE: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved”. Meet the Living God of Heaven and Earth Who answers in the day of our distresses. Your distress will surely be addressed and dealt with in the Mighty Name of JESUS.
PRAYER: Father God, I recognise You as THE GOD THAT ANSWERS IN THE DAY OF DISTRESS. I cry to You today that You will intervene in my horrible challenges. I ask for Your Gracious, Merciful intervention. Father God arise and let the enemies be scattered. Help me Oh LORD. I trust in You”.
