Waiting in habitual fellowship with God – Part 7
“Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion, which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. Genesis 6:14-16.
Moses dialogued with God face to face, even as a friend to his friend. God gave to him the most detailed instructions as to the building of the tabernacle. “…Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
Hebrews 8:5. When you study the book of Exodus Chapters 25:31 & 35-40, you will see those elaborate directions, information and plans were all given to Moses as regards the total outlay and design of the tabernacle. He was given specifications as to what type of material to be used at each given work, the quantity, size, measurement, weight, etc.
We see this same grace extended and repeated in the life of David. “Then David gave his son Solomon THE PATTERN of the porch, and of the houses…and of the place of the mercy seat. AND THE PATTERN of all that he had by the Spirit
He designated gold BY WEIGHT for things in gold…also for all instruments of silver BY WEIGHT…For THE PATTERN of the chariots of the cherubims. All this said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of THIS PATTERN. 1 Chronicles 28:11, 12, 14, 18, 19.
The will, plan and purposes of God in the lives of these men were not a vague, indefinite, obscure, hazy, guesswork. God says; “I am the Lord, I change not.” Malachi 3:6.
When Joshua went to conquer Jericho, God gave him specific instructions. They were to march round the city for seven days, then on the seventh day, seven times. They were to conclude with the blowing of the shofar and with a shout. As they followed God’s directives, they were able to capture what was probably the hardest city to be captured with sweat less success.
Then they went on to fight against Ai. This was probably the easiest and smallest city to capture. Therefore, Joshua did not seek the Lord’s face or wait on God for precise instructions. The result was that they lost the battle. Men were massacred. Joshua now laid down flat all day in silence waiting on the Lord. Of course, God in the evening of that day spoke to him directly, telling him that Israel had sinned and could not, therefore, stand before their enemies. The Lord instructed Joshua first of all to sanctify the people. Thereafter, God gave him a specific battle plan for Ai, which was completely different from that of Jericho.
How he walked with those men, he greatly desires to walk with us. The account of these men convinces me that there is a place in heaven where the plans, blueprints, and even architectural drawings of every building, ministry or individual’s life is kept. Every one of us is expected to earnestly contend and seek for this. If we fail to do this, we may be shocked on that final day when we stand before God to discover that our whole life was completely out of divine synch.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, THAT YE MAY PROVE WHAT IS THAT GOOD, AND ACCEPTABLE, AND PERFECT, WILL OF GOD. Romans 12:1-2. Men wait to build according to a pattern.
