Key Verse: Romans 8:17, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (KJV)

An heir is a person who has a right of inheritance. In Law, an heir is a person who inherits or has a right of inheritance in the real property of one who has died without leaving a valid will. The only route to becoming an heir of God and joint-heir with Christ is to be born again. To be born again means to be born of the Holy Spirit, where God imparts new spiritual life in you.

“A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you, and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe My ordinances” (Ezekiel 36:26–27).

The heir-ship route is that we become sons and daughters of God. That’s what Romans chapter 8 says, “Then if children, then heirs, and joint-heirs with Christ.” We are “heirs” of God, and Christ is our “co-heir” It is one thing to be born again and another to be a partaker of the benefits that accompany salvation. Believers are co-heirs with Christ. This means that believers have been given the privilege of sharing Christ’s inheritance as the Son of God. It takes those born in a house to be an heir. “And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir’ (Genesis 15:3).

You are not an heir of God until the fatherhood of God and the sonship of God are established in your life. The text says, “Then if children, then heirs, and joint-heirs with Christ.” You have no inheritance in God if you are not an heir of God and you can only become an heir of God by your faith in Christ. Galatians 3:26, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

There is no more restriction as to the right of inheritance as an heir, the moment you surrender your life to Christ. Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye is all one in Christ Jesus.” Beloved, what are you still waiting for to surrender your life to Christ and become an inheritor in Christ? Please, make hay while the sun shines because tomorrow may be too late for you. Jesus is calling you today to come and become a partaker in Christ.

One may ask what is it that believers share with Christ? Believers share God’s glory together with Christ. In fact, together with Christ, we are heirs of God’s glory. This inheritance that believers share together with Christ is made clearer in John Chapter 17. Jesus said in John 17:22, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them …” Praise the Lord! I am a partaker of God’s glory.

Heirs of God have this great treasure in an earthen vessel and that is God’s glory. Believers in Christ carry glory that comes from God so that God will be glorified in our lives (2 Corinthians 4:7). Alleluia! Saints of God carry glory and we are not ordinary. We carry God’s glory that Jesus will be glorified through our lives. We are to shine like a light in every corner of the world. What a great privilege to be a partaker with Christ.
