We are called as believers in Christ to shine in darkness, lead others to Christ, and bring hope into a world filled with hate, uncertainty and desperation. Pastor and author Charles Spurgeon once said: “The Bible is not the light of the world, it is the light of the Church. The world does not read the Bible, the world reads Christians! ‘You are the light of the world.’”

As a child of God, you are to reflect the light of Christ in you and be a light anywhere you may find yourself. Your lifestyle should be the Bible people around you are reading and it should point them to Jesus Christ. Be the one to show people around you love and kindness because the world is filled with wickedness and meanness. Be the person to show others compassion; be the one to speak the truth; be the one to love others; be the one to show care and hospitality and let your speech be seasoned with grace and not hurtful words because the world is hurting.

As children of God, we are to encourage those who are discouraged. Pray for people in your life; pray for the world and our leaders; pray for people who are oppressed; share God’s love with others; give to those in need; get involved in meeting a need; show acts of kindness and give the gift of love, peace, gentleness, patience, grace and kindness.

In a broken world immersed in hardship and darkness, we are to give hope and comfort. Apostle Paul exemplified this principle when he wrote: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some,” (1Corinthians 9:22). Paul’s willingness to adapt his approach to different cultural contexts demonstrates the importance of empathy and understanding in sharing the message of Christ.

We are called as children of God to love our neighbours as ourselves (Mark 12:31) and to treat others with respect and care, regardless of our differences. While we may not always agree, everyone deserves to be valued and treated with dignity as fellow image-bearers of God. Jesus’s act of washing feet serves as a powerful reminder of what it means to be a light in a broken world.

By embodying Christ’s attitude of humility and service, we can truly make a difference in the lives of others. Our goal as Christians should be to win people over to Christ through our acts of charity and compassion. As James 1:22 reminds us: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Let us not just be hearers of the word, but also doers, shining the light of Christ’s love into a world desperately in need of hope and grace.

You spread light in a broken world with your heart filled with genuine kindness and love. You must be compassionate and generous to the hurting and needy around you. You must forgive people who may have caused you some pains and allow God to heal you. Give people smile when you come across them because your smile can light up the lives around you. Your warmest smile gives undying hope to those who are almost giving up in the face of adversity and to keep moving forward whatever life may bring. God’s light in us penetrates the darkness of our broken world, offering guidance, comfort and hope.

God’s light provides us with unwavering guidance and comfort in the face of trials and tribulations.
