Night times of our lives
Text: John 3:1-2
“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher came from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.”
This story is woven around a man called Nicodemus – a man of timber and caliber; the equivalent of a Bishop today. The Bible says Nicodemus came to Jesus by Night. The first lesson to learn from this is that the night time of our lives is designed to bring us to Jesus. God does not cause them, but He allows them (James 1:13). The tragedy is that some people allow these night times to take them farther away from Jesus.
What are these night times? They are times of darkness – great confusion, doubt and unbelief. They are times when you do not know what to do and where to turn. The times of terrors (Psalm 91:5), when you lay awake in bed, tossing and turning in fear of tomorrow. They are times of evil machinations – witches meet to devise various destructions against people – troubles, oppressions, afflictions, evil dreams, nightmares and dream manipulations, when tares are planted into peoples’ lives. Times of sorrow, when you are left alone to bear your burden, after the devil has stolen everything that gives you joy. A time of weeping and pillowcases are soaked with tears (Psalm 6:6-7, Psalm 42:2-11). They are times of sicknesses, poverty and failure, when things generally are not going your way.
If only you knew that these night times were not designed to take you to the spirit mediums, witches and wizards, but to take you to Jesus. Always go to Jesus in these night times of your life. Jesus is the only One that can turn your night into day. He experienced the worst type of night and God by His Spirit turned it into the morning of resurrection. Because of this, He is empowered to turn night into the morning of Joy. David new Him well and says this of Him:
“Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness” (Psalm 30:11).
• Turn your anger away from me (Ps. 30:5)
• Let your favour work for me
• Let my night be turned into the morning of Joy.
