Our home beyond the sky
Text: John 14:1-3
The essence of the Christian race on earth is to make heaven at the end. This is the hope of every believer. The persecutions and inflictions a Christian bears are propelled by the hope of eternity with God in heaven.
The home beyond the sky is beautiful with magnificent mansions. The mansions there are meant for believers, who have successfully run the race in righteousness and conquered. This is the consolation of every child of God. This is why a believer should not concentrate his/her attention on mundane things of this world because they do not last forever. The world and all the things it offers will pass away one day and be melted with great heat. Jesus knew this fact, hence, His victory over Satan, when he tempted Him with the things of this world. He knew that the things of this world are ephemeral; they fade away with time.
The best place to lay up treasure is in heaven. It is only a fool who does not understand the realities of heaven and the mansions over there that dissipate energy on the things of this world. A Christian who believes in God and the promises of eternity and the glory that accompanies it is always focused, despite temptations and trials. In fact, trials further strengthen a true believer’s faith to hold firmly to the word of eternity. Abraham and the patriarchs of the old understood the nitty-gritty of heaven, which was why they were mindful of that home. They sacrificed a lot for the sake of heaven. They endured hardship as true soldiers of God. They were dogged in their determination to be there!
The foolish virgins were not prepared for these great mansions. They knew about heaven but were negligent about it. They were not ready, even when the warnings had been sounded long ago. They seemed to be familiar with the race but lacked what it takes to be there. They frittered away their precious time on frivolities when they were supposed to be waiting for the Lord’s coming. Some believers could be likened to these foolish virgins. They have heard a lot about heaven and its glory. They hope of being there, but carelessness takes them away from it.
Heaven is a glorious place for prepared people. The mansions that await believers over there are beyond explanations. Do everything you can to be there. Remember, if you miss heaven, you will cry!
