Text: Philippians 3:13-14; Psalm 103:12; Romans 8:1&33
Key Verse: John 8:36, “Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (KJV)

The Devil catches on your past to keep you in perpetual condemnation. The Devil always brings the images of your ugly past to torment you. Having confessed that atrocity you committed in the past to God, you need not live in perpetual guilt. When God forgives you, He does not keep record of it. The Bible says in Hebrews 8:12, “For I will forgive their sins and will remember them no more.” The blood of animal covers sin, but the blood of Jesus cleanses. This means no trace of the original, but the church people still remember what God has forgiven and forgotten.

If I ask God the last confessed sin you committed, God will say, “I have forgotten.” The Bible says in Psalm 103:12, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” To fly from California to South Africa is non-stop 17 hours flight. God is not interested in keeping records of your ugly past, which you have reconciled with Him. God forgives and forgets.

The blood of Jesus is efficacious in cleansing completely your past sins in so far as you have confessed them to God. The devil has no legal and moral grounds to constantly accuse you of sins that the blood of Jesus has taken away. You need not live in condemnation because God Has justified you. The Bible says in Romans 8:33, “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.”

When the Devil gives you the image of your past, show him the blood of Jesus. In Exodus 12:13, the Bible says, when I see the blood, I will pass over you and no destructive plague will touch you. The blood of Jesus gives you extra boldness and the Bible says in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

We deserved Hell, but because of the blood of Jesus, which was the propitiation for our sins, we were counted among the righteous people of God. Glory! What a glorious transformation that we have received in Christ Jesus. Say to the Devil, “Any day you show me my past, I will show you your ugly future.” The Devil’s destination is Hell, so you need not follow him to Hell by still living in the guilt of past sins.

Why all these miserable reminders? Must you die and be in prison forever for your past mistakes? If what is keeping you in perpetual guilt is your past mistake, I ask please who on earth has not made mistake? Must you pitch your tent there and die? Life must go on. Stop looking at the rear mirror and stop devaluing the efficacy of the blood of Jesus that was shed for the remission of your sins at Calvary.

Let go of your emotional hurt. You can’t erase the past but life must move on. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Come out of victim mentality. You are not a victim but a survivor. No one promises you that life will be trouble free. Stop thinking why this, why me? Take what God allowed and move on. Stop going back to the bitterness of your past.

To get rid of your past, you must forgive yourself, forgive others and forgive God. It is easier for God to forgive you than to forgive yourself. If the Son of God sets you free, you are free indeed

Today’s Nugget: Past is a miserable reminder.

Prayer: Lord, I come out of the prison of the past.
